New opportunities for China-Africa cooperation under the background of
A high-level Chinese delegation visits to attend the opening of the SINO-Africa Conference on Marine Science.
Additionally, the conference will address the challenges facing the African continent in the domain of marine sciences. It will highlight major capacity-building programs and implementation plans, including training opportunities for researchers from African countries—particularly through hands-on experience aboard research vessels owned by the National Institute of Oceanography and Fisheries.
Professor. Amr Hamouda, President of the National Institute of Oceanography and Fisheries (NIOF), welcomed His Excellency Mr. Sun Shuxian, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Natural Resources of the People’s Republic of China, along with representatives of international cooperation, the Ambassador of China to Cairo, and the accompanying high-level delegation.
As part of the ongoing efforts to establish the China-Africa Marine Center at NIOF, the Institute is organizing the China-Africa Conference on Marine Science and Technology, hosted for the first time outside China. The conference is being held in the Arab Republic of Egypt and brings together representatives from various African nations working in the fields of marine sciences and the blue economy.
The conference aims to strengthen mutual understanding of predictive sciences related to marine environments and to lay the groundwork for effective forecasting and early warning systems. It will showcase the latest advancements in modeling technologies that contribute to the development of accurate and timely marine prediction systems.
A key focus will be on the role of marine forecasting in promoting sustainability by monitoring and addressing environmental changes such as sea-level rise, ocean acidification, and other factors impacting marine ecosystems.
